OPUS 2: IDLE

OPUS 2: IDLE

There is duality in everything. Where one can find adrenaline in creating art, they can also experience a drought. An idle.

What are some fears, whether they are within you, or within art’s nature that drive you into an artistic idle? This was the question I posed to myself and others in the creation of this project. Often, the question posed to artists asks how one would move past a creative block, but the conversation regarding how one ended up in this predicament is usually overlooked.

Why is that? Is it because us, as artists, are too afraid of the existentialism inherently tied to art? Are we too afraid to face our insecurities?

For myself, my artistic idle stems from my fear of inauthenticity. More specifically, a fear that my artistry, creativity and works will come off as inauthentic; that I will come off as inauthentic. Albeit these conflicts are mostly internal, this feeling of being an imposter often prevents me from fulfilling my innate need to create.

Conceived as a sister project to Opus 1: The Adrenaline, I challenged myself and my fellow emerging artists to confront our fears, and to face our insecurities. Everyone’s experience with this feeling is unique, down to how they individually confront themselves. Duality exists in everything: the adrenaline and the idle; but there are also nuances that live in each of our experiences.
